click the tab > "Recording source and parameters..."
Check the box "Remove silence" thats it, hit OK.

I only have 2 boxes there checked, the other being "Convert using..."
Also, I have "Recording level" at 100%
"Soundboard" -unchecked (no dot)

The Recording format (at bottom) should be set at -PCM 44.100kHz, 16bit, Stereo.
if you click "change" make sure it also says under -Named formats, "CD Quality"

Orchiddoctor,
those previous notes i wrote you were for after you click "Recording source and parameters"
Now then, when that opens, go to the bottom and click "Change" -the "Sound format selection" opens.

Then, at the top of that, click the down-arrow by "Named formats(presets)" and pick "CD Quality" (i ignore the "Save as")
I also have "format" set at PCM and "Attributes" set at
44 100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo. all the rest (Encoding properties) i left blank

Again---thanks. I missed the cd quality tab at the top of the page. It is already set to that. The rest of the changes were so simple that even a 54 y.o. can do it!

This will really help. I owe you one.

I'll go online for the upgrade. I love the word "free."

BTW, do you know what the quality of the sugarmegs streams are rated at? I assume low level mp3. Ditto here. Is there a difference in streaming straight from Archive or streaming through say real player?

i think sugarmegs is a 40kbs stream

I believe that there is only ten seconds of theme song. Wait. It will transfer to the stream after a second or two.
